Farley Taylor-Smith

NOTE:  Since the original construction of this website and Farley's page, tragedy has again stricken our fur family.  On September 27, 2001, our Farley joined his brother Angel Gem at the Rainbow Bridge.  We have elected to leave Farley's page just as it was written when he was still with us.  A candle burns in memory of a life cut short by Liver Disease.  The disease is treatable if caught in the early stages.  Please join our campaign for Liver Disease Awareness by visiting Farley's Memorial Website.

History:  My earliest memory is of living in a metal cage in the sterile environment of an animal hospital with my brother Andy.  We were about 6 weeks old when we were dumped there, but we were fortunate they they took us in.  Very soon we were adopted by our first Mom, Rhonda Taylor.

When we were about 3 years old,  Rhonda had come upon some hard times.  She no longer could keep us because she was losing our home.  We were shuffled from place to place, with nowhere to go but back and forth between Rhonda's friends.  Eventually, she would call a shelter and our Mom would answer the phone.  Mom felt sorry for Rhonda who loved us very much, and both of them  were crying and crying.  Mom spoke to her boss who said that "No, we cannot take in any more cats right now",  even though Rhonda promised it was "only for a few weeks at the most."  Mom felt bad about this and had taken Rhonda's phone number at one of her friend's houses.  About a week passed and Mom called Rhonda to see what had happened.  Rhonda said she was taking us to the local shelter.  She cried so hard because they'd told her we would only have a few days to live.  Mom said that she would take us temporarily into her home until Rhonda could get things squared away in her life.  Rhonda was so happy and promised Mom that she would come to get us in no more than three weeks time.

So, we moved into our temporary home with Mom, where we remain today, some six years later.  Rhonda did visit us a few times in the first couple of years, and called on our birthdays which happen to be the day before Mom's birthday.  We are Libra's just like her, but Andy and I couldn't be more different from each other.  Meanwhile, Rhonda did want to get us back a few years ago, but Mom said "no", and we haven't heard or seen from Rhonda since.

Social Skills:  I don't like any else in the house except my Mom.  I try to get next to her all the time especially when company is over, when she's on the phone, or when she's on the computer.  I know just when to stand in between the keyboard and the monitor.  I like to see how long it takes for her to physically remove my body, thus I get to be touched.  For a little while, she will just try to see around me, hoping I'll move along I suppose, but eventually she just can't take it anymore.

Life's Lesson #1 - Negative attention is better than no attention.

My brother Andy is OK, and my sister Rachael, but those "big guys" especially Whiskey and Shelby, I don't like them at all.  They like to corner me at the bottom of the stairs in our apartment, and Mom has to intervene.  I'm the one who's usually gets in trouble for it, just cause I'm the one growling, and they look all sweet and innocent.

Life's Lesson #2 -  He who growl's first, laughs last

See my photo album below.  It's not as full as I'd like, but Mom said she'll take more next time she buys some film and asks to borrow my Auntie Jen's camera again

Photo album coming soon

well.....this is what can happen when you procrastinate.  Life turns on a dime. I never did take those photos I intended to take.  I have a few to scan, but I'll never forgive myself for not having taken more, or not having one of he and I together.
